United Hospital District (UHD) of Blue Earth announces the expansion of their Family Medicine/OB department with the arrival of new provider Dr. Carina Crookston, a Family Medicine and Obstetrics physician who is now seeing patients in UHD’s Fairmont Clinic. Originally from the Twin Cities, Dr. Crookston is certified through the American Board of Family Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. As the eldest of eleven children, she’s been caring for others her whole life and is involved in various community causes, including youth mentorship, Make A Wish, and charity runs. She comes to UHD with seven years of experience as an attending, having cared for patients across their lifespan while treating illnesses and health issues of various kinds.... Read more

Martin County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (MCSAP) is hosting a free showing of Screenagers Under The Influence: Addressing Vaping, Drugs, and Alcohol in the Digital Age at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 28 in the Fairmont High School Performing Arts Center. The 50-minute film will be followed by a Q&A session with an expert panel. The film shows how technology has reshaped adolescence teens’ current reality of being flooded by images on social media, movies, and TV shows about vaping, drugs, and alcohol. The Martin County Historical Society recently showed a PowerPoint presentation entitled “The Luedtke Slough Controversy of the 1970s” with Dan Kehrberg providing detailed historical information.  Dan was most influential in maintaining the slough as a nature preserve.  The program was very well received with an estimated 60 or more in attendance.  The Pioneer Museum will host a presentation and book signing by Pat Garry regarding his latest book entitled “The Power of Gratitude.”  It will take place on July 17th in the Pioneer Museum at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m.  In addition, watch People & Events for our monthly presentations.
