New Directors and upcoming donations

Toys for Tots has new directors this year, Larry and Mariza Ortiz. Applicatations are being sent home with students at all county public schools. Applications can be obtained at the Martin County Library on Park Street in Fairmont. Toy collection sites are posted on the Martin County Toys for Tots Facebook group. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Glows Parade (Nov. 22) and recieve a TFT swag bag, or bring them prior to the parade at the Santa fly in. Aventure Staffing in Fairmont has hired all new staff. Deb Klujeske is the new Branch Manager. She brings with her several years of office management experience and has many contacts in the community. Her primary role is to cultivate the relationships with our current clients as well as share what we do with the communities we serve. Bailey Ford is the new Employment Specialist. Bailey has previous staffing experience working with Grape Tree staffing traveling nurses. Bailey's role is to work applicants to find the best fit available to get them hired. The Holiday Season is coming, and the Salvation Army of Martin County is looking for some good-hearted volunteers to fill bell ringer shifts from 10AM to 6PM Monday through Saturday at The Fairmont Hy-Vee and Fareway locations starting November 25th through December 21st, 2024. The City of Fairmont Park and Street Departments are preparing for the upcoming 2024 Curbside Leaf Pick-up. Crews will be making one pass though the City. Barring inclement weather or any other unanticipated events, pick-up will be based on your location and the schedule, view map on: fairmont.org/leaf-pickup

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont is holding a Saturday Screening event on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Mammogram appointments will be available during that time to offer convenient opportunities to get annual screenings completed. The average appointment takes 20 minutes. Appointments are open to patients, staff and community members.
Mammograms are X-ray images of breasts and play a key role in early breast cancer detection. Early detection often means better outcomes for patients.

MCSAP recently awarded a four-year substance misuse and suicide prevention grant

Martin County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition was recently awarded a four-year substance misuse and suicide prevention grant from the State of Minnesota. Shelly Larsen will be the grant coordinator. With this resource, MCSAP will be able to expand its focus to include more resources on mental health and wellness and educate Martin County students on healthy coping mechanisms and resistance skills. If you are interested in hearing more about this grant and the opportunities it provides or have ideas for collaborations, email Shelly at shelly@mcsapcoalition.com MCSAP is a non-profit, “boots-on-the-ground” organization whose aim is to prevent student substance misuse....
